Boosting glass recycling – reducing contamination

Back to work

In Suffolk, glass doesn’t form part of the local household recycling service. Instead, people are encouraged to use the network of bring banks; something that prior to the Covid pandemic, they were more than willing to do. But since then, with glass waste having increased, capture levels have fallen with an increase in the amount of glass contamination in the household recycling bins.

Mobius were appointed to develop a campaign to address the problem. We created an integrated campaign that ran across OOH media, transport, broadcast and mobile advertising sites. Central to the campaign was a paid-for social media programme featuring a mix of static and video based content.

Over 350,000 viewed campaign content at least twice during the campaign period which represents nearly all adult Social Media users in Suffolk.
This is one of three campaign videos we produced. It reached over 68,000 people, 21% of whom viewed the entire length. It generated over 4,400 engagements and 22 shares.
We created a set of intervention communication materials including a leaflet, bin hanger, crew prompts and communal recycling bin stickers. The mobile billboard is shown bottom left.

We’re delighted with the campaign. Not only does it look great but is also having the desired effect. It’s been a delight working with Mobius.
