Behaviour change communications supporting waste sector reform in the northern part of Cyprus
Services: Capacity Building | Campaigns | Design | Strategy | Video | Engagement
The northern part of Cyprus has just one landfill and limited options for recycling. What options exist are limited to civil society organisations that accept donated goods for re-sale to generate charitable income.
To reduce landfill dependency, a series of measures were developed, funded by the EU, developed and implemented by our partners RWA, all aimed at supporting these organisations through increased material capture.
Mobius were appointed to develop a high-impact campaign targeting cans and textiles, focusing initially on Nicosia before expanding to other regions. The campaign raised awareness of the ability to recycle these items with the motivational messages to encourage more people to do so and focused upon three material streams.
The services we provided included:
- Communication strategy
- Art-direction
- Capacity building
- Advertising campaign (print and broadcast)
- Point of action signage
- Social media content generation
Cans for Kids collects beverage cans via a network of containers located across the regions. We created a campaign that included on-container branding visually linking the advertising with the point of action.
Cyprus Cancer Care raises funds through the sale of donated clothes and textiles. We developed a campaign to highlight their work and encourage more people to donate unwanted clothes and items.
Kyrenia Animal Rescue looks after the many stray dogs and cats in the region and accepts left over food as feed for the animals it cares for. The campaign we created encouraged people to donate left over food.
“The campaign has been transformational. Before, we were taking no more than 100 tonnes of textiles each month. Today, we are processing close to 4,000 tonnes. This has enabled us to open new reuse shops and invest in bring banks across the region. We’re raising more money than ever to help those that need it most. All thanks to this campaign”.
